CATHALONIA AETERNA

A monumental work that traces the uniqueness of Catalonia from the ninth century to the present day. From the times of Charlemagne to the present day, this major work describes the key events that have shaped the destiny of the country of Catalonia and its inhabitants. The documents are exact replicas thanks to the use of the most advanced facsimile reproduction techniques, and are also of extraordinary value, having been studied together, as they have been presented in this work. The result is a story that helps us to understand the history of the country.

FACSIMILE REPRODUCTION

The facsimile reproduction of Cathalonia Aeterna includes over 80 important documents, reproduced as true images of the original. They have been printed using the most sophisticated techniques, permitting the highest quality reproductions of the originals, in appearance, colour, texture and cutting of the natural parchment. All this cutting-edge technology has been combined with the artisanal production of the copy, applying the same stitching and binding techniques as were used in medieval books.

This exclusive volume has been made by hand, using traditional medieval production techniques: lambskin cover over wooden board and parchment for the binding, manual crafting and handling and paper distressing of the documents. Each book takes two days to craft.

  • Digitasation

The original documents are scanned at the highest resolution using the latest photographic digitisation techniques for subsequent processing and copying before printing.

  • Document Printing

Stochastic screening is used for the document printing process, first selecting the parchment (paper type), and then starting the thermal stamping process, laser punching and ageing of the parchments.

  • Handling and binding

The final process consists of binding the volume. This is a hand-crafted process, just like in the Middle Ages, sewing up each copy with fabric.

  • Technological process

The two volumes of Cathalonia Aeterna and its study book have been made using the most advanced document replication technologies. Double hot gold foil stamping and laser punching combined with hand-crafting have given an outstandingly high quality result.

  • Cathalonia aeterna summary

The Cathalonia Aeterna volume is hand-bound using the rebinding technique used to craft books in medieval times. The leather cover, the handcrafting, the ageing of the documents all make this book a unique work of art.
